Iohahi:io Akwesasne Education & Training Institute

To provide ongoing, quality, continuous learning opportunities that promote relevant individual and community development.

“In Mohawk, Iohahi:io means, “the good road.” Established in 1989, Iohahi:io was founded to provide greater access to post-secondary education for the Akwesasne Mohawk people. Iohahi:io functions to “provide the best possible education and training services to the members of Akwesasne.”

Iohahi:io Akwesasne Education & Training Institute has offered members of the Mohawk Nation at Akwesasne the tools to succeed in all aspects of life. The Center holds classes in literacy and basic skills, and offers high school credits to completion of the OSSD diploma through TR Leger School of Adult, Alternative and Continuing Education. Iohahi:io provides college certificate and diploma programs and also offers pre-employment workshops. Iohahi:io serves all members of Akwesasne interested in continuing on their education journey.

Iohahi:io offers programs and courses of study which promote individual and collective economic and social well-being; address issues and needs from and Indigenous perspective; serve as a center of excellence for Indigenous community-based learning; and enable learners to gain knowledge and skills needed to be self-sufficient, educated and employable.”

Kenjgewin Teg has over 25 years experience delivering quality, comprehensive educational programming on Mnidoo Mnising (Manitoulin Island).Through partnerships with Ontario universities and colleges, Kenjgewin Teg offers a wide variety of programs in Health and Wellness, Teaching and Learning, and Skills and Trades & Apprenticeships.Kenjgewin Teg also offers a flexible adult learning environment through our Pathways to Post-secondary and Employment program to support students in achieving their academic and career goals.In January 2022, Kenjgewin Teg became an accredited Indigenous Institute in Ontario, granted by the Indigenous Advanced Education and Skills Council (IAESC). Indigenous Institutes are the third pillar in Ontario’s post-secondary education sector. As an accredited Indigenous Institute, Kenjgewin Teg can offer its own certificates, diplomas, and degrees, in addition to continuing its long-standing partnerships with mainstream colleges and universities.

SKG Teaching Lodge

Shingwauk Kinoomaage Gamig – SKG Teaching Lodge, is an Anishinaabe post-secondary institute. Preserving the integrity of Anishinaabe knowledge and understanding, SKG works in cooperation with society to educate the present and future generations in a positive, cooperative and respectful environment. SKG aims at providing and developing academic programs, workshops and seminars which reflect the Anishinaabe worldview, distinguished by Anishinaabe ways of learning and knowing. It is one of nine Indigenous institutes of higher learning that are legally recognized. Also, home to the National Chief’s Library, SKG is a teaching and research centre of excellence in Anishinaabe education.Shingwauk Kinoomaage Gamig actualizes the original vision of Chief Shingwauk; a Teaching Lodge where Indigenous ways are at the core and root of everything we do. Ways of knowing, ways of seeing, ways of doing, ways of teaching, ways of being.

The Martin Family Initiative Early Years

Co-creating early childhood programming with Indigenous parents and communities

The Martin Family Initiative (MFI) is a registered Canadian charity committed to improving education, health and overall well-being outcomes for First Nations, Inuit, and Métis people in Canada. In partnership with Indigenous communities, organizations, and educational institutions, MFI co-creates programming that weaves together trailblazing science, lived experience, common sense and traditional ways of knowing and being. MFI prioritizes constant collaboration with partners in order to ensure programming is designed to fit a specific community or organization’s needs. Early learning, literacy and entrepreneurship and mentoring are the current focus areas of MFI programming. MFI Early Years is an innovative evidence-informed programming approach that seeks to honour Indigenous parents as their children’s first teachers, support healthy pregnancies and infancy and successful service navigation. MFI Early Years focuses on offering a flexible approach that can be adapted to best serve individual communities, and is committed to supporting our partners in making their vision of the program a reality.

The College of Early Childhood Educators (College) regulates and governs Ontario’s Registered Early Childhood Educators (RECEs) in the public interest.The College was established under the Early Childhood Educators Act, 2007 (ECE Act), and came into existence in February 2009.With more than 57,000 members in good standing, the College is one of the largest professional self-regulatory bodies in Ontario and is the only professional self-regulatory body for early childhood education in Canada.The College regulates the profession of early childhood education by establishing and enforcing:Registration requirements (education);Ethical and professional standards for RECEs;Requirements for continuous professional learning; andComplaints and discipline process for professional misconduct, incompetence and incapacity.
